Make the relationships do the explaining.

1

Gather the concepts

Write the key terms people use around the topic. Include terms that different teams may understand differently.

2

Label the connections

Connect related concepts and describe the relationship: depends on, leads to, contains or is measured by.

3

Test the meaning

Read each connection as a sentence. If the sentence is vague or disputed, make that the next question for the group.

An example session

Agree what adoption means

Connect customer goals, use of the product, behaviour change and evidence of value. Ask sales, delivery and support to label the links they rely on when they describe a successful customer.

Build a shared vocabulary before choosing metrics or planning interventions.

Do I need a special concept-map template?

No. Use shapes and labelled connectors on a blank board, or adapt the Mind Map template to begin with a few concepts.

Can concept maps help with teaching?

They can help a group explain relationships and expose misunderstandings. The board provides the canvas; the facilitator chooses the prompts and checks the explanation.
